Nobody Beats the LIZ

It seems that whenever something Obama-related goes down, Questlove of the Legendary Roots Crew is there to help us celebrate at Sutra…and the tradition continued last night. This time the occasion was the screening of the HBO documentary “By the People: The Election of Barack Obama” at the Landmark Sunshine Theater on Houston St., just a couple of blocks from Sutra.

I stopped through after checking out a dope hip hop show at Voodoo Lounge, a couple doors down from Sutra (more on that later). Ran into Joseph Marconi (aka “mini TONE” – Ha Ha), and we both end up shooting this creature who was strutting down 1st St:

Went into Sutra and said hi to Questlove and Nah Mean in the booth. ?uest gave me an Obama-esqe fist bump. =)

Settled in for an evening on just enjoying the music…there were a lots of big heads in attendance, considering that John Legend, De La Soul, Rakim and Chico DeBarge all had shows last night… Jeru the Damaja, Posdnuos of De La Soul, Pharoahe Monch, Kid Capri and this dude I swear was Sleepy Brown. Shouts to Melo-X, Nyle and the fam who were at Voodoo Lounge with me who stopped by as well. Highlight of the night? When ?uest played “Let the Beat Build” by Nyle! Too bad he had left already…I’m sure that would’ve made his night!

I didn’t flick up any of the above-mentioned people because I understand that sometimes and artist/celebrity just wants to chill and get away from it all. But I DID flick up someone who everyone was talking about on Twitter, before I even knew who it was. She was with Mr. Mecca, and I bet all the fellas were drooling =)
