10 Til 30 – Save the Date(s)!

On August 25th, I will be celebrating my 30th birthday, and I’m reaching out to everyone who has been a part of my life or involved in my still-budding photography career to help me celebrate. Yes, that means YOU! Got a few things planned that I want to let you know about:

1. Last year around this time, I presented my debut photography exhibit, which was a phenomenal success and truly humbled me. A lot of people have asked me in the past year when I was going to do another one…well, that time has come! We also had a back-to-school fundraiser, where we raised money for the Harlem School of the Arts. I’d like to turn this into an annual event, but this year will be a little different. In these tough economic times, it’s getting more and more difficult for parents to come up with extra funds to pay for non-essential items. With the new school year right around the corner, I thought it would be a good idea to collect school supplies and backpacks to distribute to families and children who really need them. You’d be surprised at how many things parents are asked to purchase!

Before you balk at buying supplies for a kid you may not even know, I feel that even a small contribution can go a long way. For example, Target started their back-to-school sales a few weeks ago, and although prices change weekly, you can currently find folders and composition notebooks for 50 cents, pencils and pens for $1, and even crayons for 30 cents! There was a sale this week that featured backpacks for $8.50 (sale ends today, so if you have time, pick one up!). Want more of an incentive? I currently work at Target, and can offer an extra 10% off your purchase (payment in cash only).

We’re looking for supplies such as (but not limited to):
Notebooks (Spiral/Composition)
Colored Pencils
Looseleaf paper
Graph paper
Pencil Case
Index Cards
Sticky Notes
Combination Locks
Lunch Bags
Hand Sanitizer

You can also buy many of these items at 99-cent stores.
That being said, here are the details on the event:

2 and 3. On my big day, I’ll be celebrating with a party at Sutra Lounge. It was one of the first party spots I was introduced to, and it’s become one of my favorite spots to go to in the city. You never know who you may run into! The day after, the party continues with Homebase Wednesdays at bObs. This has been my go-to spot on Wednesdays for the past year. No cover, no dress code, great music…what more can you ask for? So come party with me!
