Give Thanks.

As the Thanksgiving weekend winds down and comes to a close, I can’t help but reflect on what Thanksgiving means to me… The photo above is my family’s Thanksgiving meal last year (minus the chicken). Not much, but enough (Give me a plate of mac & cheese and stuffing and I’m a happy camper). This year, I couldn’t help but think of those less fortunate and struggling to find something to be thankful for. At the last Show & Tell, I encouraged those who attended to give back by donating food and clothing (which will be distributed sometime this week). I have friends who have loved ones who were in the hospital this week, and even one who lost his mother a couple days prior to Thanksgiving. I called a friend who said he was hungry; others had to work and miss out on time with family. Some of us are celebrating our first holiday without a parent. Only a week ago, the ceiling in my room collapsed and I was scared I wouldn’t have a place to sleep…

Despite all the above, I am thankful to be in good health, to have a roof over my head and a warm bed to sleep in; for some money in my pocket; for friends who care about me and encourage me to be the best Liz I can be; for my family. I don’t have much, but I’m content with the simple things until things get better. Remember that no matter how bad you think you might have it, someone ALWAYS has it worse. Don’t ever take anything or anyone for granted, and appreciate what you have. You never know when it could be taken away from you.

Give thanks…
