Benefit Show to Raise Money for New York City’s Schoolchildren

(New York, New York – September 14, 2010) On Monday, September 27, 2010, some of New York and New Jersey’s most talented independent artists will converge upon Southpaw in Brooklyn for a benefit show to raise money and collect back-to-school supplies for needy children and families.

In this age of economical instability, it is becoming more and more difficult for parents to afford school supplies, clothing and more for their children at the start of every school year. Families with multiple children have it even harder. Hoping to alleviate the burden if only a little bit, New York-based photographer Elizabeth Allen decided to give back by organizing back-to-school fundraisers and putting together care packages. Last year, 25 such care packages were donated to the Urban Family Center at the Henry Street Settlement in lower Manhattan, and yet more benefited other children from New York City and Haiti.

On September 27th, you are invited to join Brokn.Englsh, Elite Assembly, Fresh Daily, G. Martin, Hi-Jynx, Nyle, P. So the Earth Tone King, Sound House Band, St. Joe Louis and others as they donate their time and talent to a noble cause. This event will be hosted by Tasty Keish (WBAI/Rise Up Radio) and Jason Negron (Trendsettaz Entertainment), with music by DJ Kraff Swagger (Scratch Academy/PNC Radio). All proceeds from the benefit show will go to buying backpacks and schools supplies for children in grades K-12. All are encouraged to donate school supplies and backpacks, as well as new or gently used clothing and sneakers.

Help bring Christmas a few months early to New York City’s children.
