Hypnotic Brass Ensemble
I first was introduced to Hypnotic Brass Ensemble in the subway and streets around Union Square a few years ago. I bought one of their CD’s (the green one) and really loved it.
This band is a family of brothers and cousins who are just so talented that I never forgot their sound. When I started documenting the independent scene and artists I know were creating music inspired by Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, I picked up on it right away. I always felt like I was part of a select few who were up on them, so I felt like yelling “Word!? What do YOU know about them!?” when their music popped up. Ever heard “A Day With Clark Kent” by Print (now Chris Faust)? or “The Catalina Wine Mixer” by Deal the Villain and Tommie Chase of St. Joe Louis? Yup – that’s the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble in the background…
I had the opportunity to see them perform on stage at BB Kings at Okayplayer’s Holiday Jam in 2009 and they did not disappoint! Here are a few photos from that night:
Tonight, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble will take the stage at SOBs to celebrate the release of their “Heritage EP.” I highly recommend that you check them out!
